x402 Agent Payments Tracker
x402 is a way for software to pay for things over plain HTTP, with no signup and no API key. This page collects what is actually known about it: the Mastercard announcement, how much money is moving, and how it works. Every number has a source link and a date. Facts last checked Oct 25, 2026.
Building something that charges with x402? Check that an agent can really pay it with the x402 endpoint readiness check. It probes your paid API without paying and tells you what to fix. $0.003 a call. More at Agent Tools.
Made by the team behind Agent Tools, a set of pay-per-call x402 endpoints. We sell on this rail, so we have a stake in it. Read the numbers with that in mind.
Mastercard and x402: what was announced
- Oct 20, 2026. Mastercard showed Agent Pay for Machines at Cloudflare Connect and opened Early Access: first versions of buyer and seller APIs, a toolkit, a sandbox and docs. (Mastercard, Oct 20, 2026)
- Pilot partners: Cloudflare, Ant International, AIsa, Base, BVNK, Coinbase and Hype. (Mastercard, Oct 20, 2026)
- The demo: Hype gave an AI agent a budget to plan a sample protein bar campaign. The agent bought research from AIsa and eight images from Cloudflare AI Gateway. Nine payments, two merchants, one approved budget. (Mastercard, Oct 20, 2026)
- Who did what: Coinbase Developer Platform supplied the wallet infrastructure, Base was the on-chain settlement network, and BVNK acted as the agent wallet using Mastercard's Global Money Platform, in fiat or stablecoins. (Mastercard, Oct 20, 2026)
- How the vouchers work: the service answers "402 Payment Required", the agent signs a payment voucher within its limit, the provider verifies it, and vouchers can be combined and redeemed later. (Mastercard, Oct 20, 2026)
- Still a pilot. The Block reports the project remains in a pilot stage and is not yet commercially available. Mastercard first announced Agent Pay for Machines in June. (The Block, Oct 20, 2026)
- Base: Exchange.news reports that Base announced the launch on Oct 20 and posted again on Oct 23 describing the stack as "Powered by x402 and USDC, settled on Base." It also notes no pricing or country list has been published. (Exchange.news, Oct 24, 2026)
Mastercard's own announcement does not name USDC. The USDC wording comes from Base's Oct 23 post as reported by Exchange.news.
How x402 works
- A client asks for a resource, like an API call.
- The server replies HTTP 402 with the price, who gets paid and which payment options it takes.
- The client signs a payment and sends the request again with proof attached.
- A facilitator verifies the payment. The server does the work, then asks the facilitator to settle.
- The server returns the result and confirms the payment.
No checkout page, signup or API key. It works across chains, USDC is the most common asset, and sellers can charge a fixed price, a maximum, or settle later in a batch. Source: Coinbase CDP docs, read Oct 25, 2026.
How much money is moving
The most cited independent look is BeInCrypto Research's report, launched Oct 7, 2026 at TOKEN2049 Singapore.
| Figure | Value | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| x402 payments in a 35-day sample on Base and Solana | 6.4 million | BeInCrypto, Oct 7, 2026 |
| Total value of those payments | $119,947 | BeInCrypto, Oct 7, 2026 |
| Share of payments under one cent | 90.8% | BeInCrypto, Oct 7, 2026 |
| Sample window | Jul 23 to Aug 26, 2026 | BeInCrypto on LinkedIn |
| One day, Aug 26: payments from 145 addresses to 3 recipients | 1,283,926 | BeInCrypto on LinkedIn. BeInCrypto does not call it wash activity and says the data does not show intent. |
| Most requested paid resource: a two-cent token safety check | 63,319 calls | BeInCrypto, Oct 7, 2026. Calls recorded, not confirmed purchases. |
| Payments processed through Coinbase's facilitator, Base and Solana | More than 100 million | Coinbase CDP docs, read Oct 25, 2026. Undated page, so this is the figure as read Oct 25, 2026. |
Average payment in the BeInCrypto sample works out to about 1.9 cents. That is our division of the two figures above, not a number BeInCrypto printed on that page.
The honest read: counts are big, dollars are small, and a few addresses can produce most of the count. BeInCrypto's own line is that lots of transactions does not mean lots of demand.
Left out on purpose: BeInCrypto's announcement and its explainer page give different Solana shares of transactions (94.5% in one, 99.2% in the other), so we do not print either. This is one protocol, two chains and five weeks. It says nothing about card or other agent payments.
Live numbers
These come from public third-party feeds, fetched when you load the page. They are not audited and they are not the same thing as the BeInCrypto sample above.
| Measure (trailing 30 days) | Value | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Raw USDC volume to indexed sellers | $1,465,401 | x402stats.io, computed Nov 6, 2026, 5:42 AM UTC |
| "Organic" volume (their filter: 3+ buyers, $100+ revenue, no facilitator wallets) | $583,736 | x402stats.io, same run. Filter described in x402stats methodology |
| Sellers that pass the organic filter | 94 | x402stats.io, same run |
Daily raw volume, last 30 complete days
Bars are x402stats.io's raw daily USDC volume, 2026-10-06 to 2026-11-04 (UTC days). Hover a bar for the day. Feed last updated Nov 6, 2026, 5:42 AM UTC. Raw volume includes wash and dust activity, which is why they publish the organic number too.
Facilitator share of volume
- fluxa: 57.4% ($844,822)
- coinbase: 34.0% ($501,365)
- mrdn: 6.2% ($91,091)
- payAI: 1.2% ($18,105)

36,354 resources are listed in Coinbase's x402 Bazaar discovery catalog right now. Source: Coinbase x402 Bazaar API, read live (cached up to 15 minutes). Listings are not payments or users, and a listing can be a duplicate or a test endpoint.
Trackers disagree
Snapshot read Oct 25, 2026: 402radar's "attributed economy" showed $238,106 of x402 volume over the trailing 30 days (402radar, read Oct 25, 2026). x402stats.io's raw figure for a similar window is above, several times higher. The two count different things: window edges, dust handling, facilitator coverage and which wallets count as sellers all differ. Treat any single x402 volume number, including ours, as one tracker's view.
Try x402 yourself
x402 endpoint readiness check, $0.003 per call. Give it the URL of a paid API. It probes without paying and tells you whether a buyer's agent can actually pay it: valid 402, network, asset, price, payTo checksum, token domain, timeout, discovery. Ready or needs fixes, with a score and a list of issues.
That link returns a 402 until an x402 client pays it. Full list of 19 endpoints, from $0.001: llms.txt and OpenAPI. Contact: agenttools@agentmail.to
